Baby Minenthle (1 year 2 months) is now at a stage in her development đ¶ where on a motor level she can pull herself up to stand. This requires coping with balance and emotional learning to be on her own two feetđŁ, therefore becoming independent and not needing her mother all the time .
Through the Feldenkrais and Chava Shelhav Child'Space method lens we look beyond the achievement đ of standing itself , we are interested in the process of coming to stand. The ability to stand includes; getting up from lying or sitting, maintaining a standing position for a period of time and then being able to go back down to the floor to sitting or lying without falling.
There are many different ways and possibilities to achieve this, not only one way.
During this session Monja is showing mother Busi some possibilities where she can help to strengthen Minenthle's balance system through:
1. stomping the feet, where she has to lift one leg off the floor and balance on the other.
2. transitioning from kneeling on both knees into lunging to push and pull herself to stand
3. encouraging climbing which supports balance and coordination and children love it.
We invite parents/caregivers to reach out to us with questions and concerns about your baby's development. We would love â€ïž to help where we can.
