Baby Keagan demonstrated and Monja explained to the mothers from Kliptown, Soweto why lifting the head is so important for an infant's 👶 development:
• A big part of the sensory system is located in the head (eyes 👀, ears👂, nose👃, mouth👅)
• Activates the vestibular system (sense of balance)
• To receive, process and explore information from the environment
• Strengthens the back enabling the child to be upright
• Leads to later milestones such as turning over, crawling, sitting, standing and walking
Baby Keagan beautifully shows how it is done! He uses the floor to strengthen his body by pressing his arms, legs, feet, belly and pelvis against the floor which encourages the process if lifting his head.
