"Connection is why we're here; it is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives." Brene Brown
Today we re- connected with the mothers and babies from Kliptown, Soweto after a one month break. We are excited and ready to start our 2nd project with a new group!
The session today was about re- connecting as a group after a break and emphasizing the Theme and meaning of connection as part of Mental Health Awareness Month. We checked in with each other and shared what happened during the past month. We introduced Mental Health Awareness and shared how important parent/child connection is for mental health and the baby's development. We revised tapping (Shaya shaya) and squeezing (bamba yeka). First, the mothers practiced on each another in order for them to understand and feel what the baby is experiencing in their body. They then practiced with their babies before we moved on to transitions ; turning from back to side to belly and from belly to back .
We ended our session with singing a song whilst moving in a circle stomping our feet.
We were happy to see the mothers remembered what they have learnt from the Introductory workshops in April .
Early learning is critical, making it available to all shapes communities .
